The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Damak.
VACANCY NOTICE NO: SVN#NP/02/16
POSITION TITLE: Radio Operator - 1 position
CLASSIFICATION: Grade 4
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Special Short Term, Six months with possibility of extension
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the overall supervision of the Field Security Officer (FSO) and direct supervision of the Field Security Assistant (FSA), the Radio Operator will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Radio Room in Damak (FED). The incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor and operate UN HF, VHF radio networks, sat phones and direct line telephone installed in the radio room.  
  • Confirm that all equipment installed in the radio room is functioning and if any problem is observed to notify the FSA/FSO. 
  • Conduct minor maintenance and repair works of communications equipment, specifically VHF and HF radios. 
  • Monitor the proper use of radio procedures and the communication discipline in the radio networks.
  • Responsible for all equipment and stores in the radio room  
  • Conduct the weekly VHF radio check as advised by the FSO/FSA. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date logbook of staff members travelling in the region. Keep the respective agency focal point informed if any travelling agency staff member is unaccounted for a considerable timeframe.
  • Collect information on incidents and developments in the area of responsibility through staff members in the field, host country security forces, media, UNAFP and local population. 
  • Disseminate information related to incidents and developments in the area of responsibility as instructed by FSA/FSO.
  • Update the staff database and warden list and support FSA/FSO in administrative work. 
  • Undertake shift work as assigned by the FSA. 
  • Perform other related duties as required. 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Secondary Education or recognized equivalent in radio communication 
  • 4 years of professional work experience in UNAFP. Experience as radio operator is an asset.  
  • Good typing skills and knowledge of computer applications 
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English and Nepali languages
